The Main beneficiaries of the 2008 Northampton Dragon Boat Festival are:

Northamptonshire Teaching Primary Care Trust manages Cynthia Spencer Hospice which is part of the NHS.

The Hospice currently serves a population in excess of 300,000 people and is a purpose-built 20-bedded unit, designed to the highest standards for patient care. The team of specialist doctors, nurses and therapists based at the Hospice provide a comprehensive service for mainly cancer patients, and their families, for whom cure may no longer be possible.

The hospice is mainly funded by the NHS. However, to maintain our exceptional quality of care, we have to raise an extra £650,000 a year through charitable donations and fund raising activities. Money raised this way is used to employ staff for the benefit of patients and to make the their stay as comfortable as possible. Our care is focused on the 'whole person' incorporating the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of patients. We ensure that the patient's quality of life is maintained by working in partnership with family and carers. Our primary concern is to respect our patient's dignity and choice in a friendly and supportive environment.

Air Amb
ulance

The Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) was established in October 2003 to provide an emergency medical service for the heart of England including Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes. Prior to this, the region had relied on older, slower aircraft with limited space for onboard patient treatment. The new service shifted the emphasis from transporting casualties to hospital, to recognising the need to get senior Doctors and Consultants to the scene of incidents as quickly as possible, providing lifesaving treatment and medication at the scene and en-route to hospital.

The service has 12 Doctors, 12 Paramedics & 3 Pilots which service a population of around 1.1 million people. Based at Coventry Airport, in the three years it has been operating, it has flown over 5500 missions. With an ever-increasing callout rate of between 120 and 150 callouts per month, the WNAA is the busiest air ambulance in the UK.
