Previous Years

2009

Competitors: 36

Winner: Pattishall Paddlers who just beat last year's winners, Row Die from E7 Contracting.

Amount Raised: Over £25,000+ (this figure is estimated and may be updated if it changes)

Beneficiaries: Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, Cynthia Spencer Hospice, Rotary Sponsored Charities.

A great day in lovely summer weather.  One of the warmest and sunniest for this event.  For those competing, watching or just sitting having a cream tea listening to a brass band play while the Lancaster flew overhead, a perfect British summer Sunday.  Make sure you come to this year's event to experience Northampton's best free day out.

To demonstrate the fun and excitement of the day, some video clips of the racing and other activitities can be viewed by clicking the appropriate button below.

If you are using a high-speed Internet connection, then click on the high-resolution option (the button on the left) to get the best sound and pictures, the low-res option (on the right) is best if you have a slow connection speed.

Hasse Marrum introduces the festival and you can see some of the preparation that is required to make the day a success

In the traditional manner, the results of the (closely fought) final are announced in reverse order

We had to have one - see the safety team in action as one team gets wet - it all increases the level of entertainment for those watching from the banks

Hi Res

The magnificent Lancaster from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight paid us a visit just around the time of the finals (no bouncing bombs though)

2007

Competitors: 36

Winner:
The Red Daro Team (YET AGAIN) – narrowly beating a team from the Air Ambulance, to make it three years in a row!  Surely, it's time for someone else to step up and knock the Red Daros off their perch.

Amount Raised: £34,000

Beneficiaries: Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, Teenage Cancer Trust, Rotary Sponsored Charities

The weather was not as kind as in 2006, but the competition was hot and there were more activities for crews, friends and families and spectators, culminating in a magnificent flypast by the BBMF Lancaster.

2006

Competitors: 36

Winner:
The Red Daro Team (From Daro Cane Furniture, Kings Heath, Northampton) – two years in a row!

Amount Raised: £37,000

Beneficiaries: Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, Rotary Sponsored Charities

£20,000 was raised in direct sponsorship by the 36 crews that competed in perfect weather conditions
(such an improvement from the previous year).

2005

Competitors: 28

Winner: The Red Daro Team - winning time 56.81 Seconds

Amount Raised:
£20,000

Beneficiaries: Marie Curie Cancer Care, Macmillan Nurses, Rotary Sponsored Charities

Appalling weather caused the cancellation of a planned flypast by a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire and reduced the number of spectators, but the teams still had fun and fought hard to win the Northampton Dragon
Boat trophy.

2004

Competitors: 33

Winner: Nationwide Building Society – winning time 64.29 Seconds

Amount Raised: £30,000

Beneficiary:
Cynthia Spencer Hospice

The first Northampton Dragon Boat Festival, organised by the four Rotary Clubs of Northampton and destined to become a summer fixture in the town, raising money for important local causes and providing a fantastic family day out as well as an exciting competition for each crew of 10 rowers and a drummer.
